The Ahrntal valley
Holidays on the sunny side of the Zillertal Alps
The Ahrntal valley is the northernmost side valley of South Tyrol and stretches from the main town of Sand in Taufers to the end of the valley near Kasern. The small villages along the mountain river "Ahr" rise against the backdrop of the snow-capped three-thousanders of the Zillertal Alps. Farms can be seen everywhere, which mainly live from livestock and dairy farming.
The municipality of Ahrntal is located in the middle of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. In addition to alpine pasture hikes and mountain tours such as those on the "Schwarzenstein" or the "Großer Löffler", rafting, horseback riding and Kneipp are popular activities. In winter, the two ski areas Speikboden and Klausberg in the Skiworld Ahrntal are a popular meeting place for young and old.
The people who live here radiate satisfaction and gratitude to have their home here. We pass on this enthusiasm to all our guests. Let yourself be infected by the joy of life in the valley and enjoy our offer!
Spring
Due to the altitude of 1,400m, spring arrives late at Ortnerhof - but then with full power: the meadows are green and golden yellow colored by dandelions, the peaks around still shining snow-white. When spring has arrived, skiing is still going on in the ski areas of Skiworld Ahrntal, and ski tourers find the best conditions for their tours.
Summer
Of the many ways to experience the beauty of the Ahrntal Valley, hiking is one of the best. On countless hiking trails in the middle of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, on alpine pastures and between imposing peaks, the nature can be discovered. So you should not miss a guided hike in any case. Other themed trails lead across all altitudes, such as the 'Sunnsat' trail, which passes directly by our farm.
Autumn
Especially in autumn, the sun once again encourages you to get out into nature. In the midst of the beautiful mountain landscape around the Ortnerhof, every hiker will find his tour, tailored to individual ability and condition. Many huts and alpine pastures around the Ahrntal are still open until end of autumn. And should the sun not shine, there are many opportunities to discover some unexpected cultural and natural highlights.
Winter
Guaranteed snow until spring and a wide range of leisure activities make the winter vacation complete. In the ski areas "Speikboden" and "Klausberg" 75 kilometers of slopes and 21 modern lifts await skiing beginners, families and professionals.
Four perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails, seven attractive toboggan runs (one of them even the longest toboggan run in South Tyrol) or cozy snowshoe and winter hiking trails are ready for the active winter vacationer.
Sightseeing in Ahrntal valley
The diversity of the Ahrntal valley makes history and art come alive: Here you can roll into a dark mine tunnel with a wagon, you can look over the shoulder of the masters of woodcarving or visit museums like the Castle of Tures, with its amazing stories about the Ahrntal and the people who lived here.
Riva waterfalls
The impressive Riva Waterfalls in the Riva Valley can be visited in a circular walk close to Campo di Tures. Starting from the village of Bad Winkel in Campo Tures, a panoramic path leads past this impressive natural monument. They also offer a special sight in winter when they are frozen.
Castle Tures
Tures Castle towers high above Campo Tures and fits very well into the surrounding mountain panorama of the Valle di Tures. The former dynasty castle from 1535 is made of quarry stone. For friends of the old-fashioned way of life there is an armory to touch and impressive Pacher frescoes. The structure attaches great importance to its little visitors with a special children's program and events such as the witching hour at Tures Castle.
Farmers & Crafts Market
Spruce honey, herbal salts, bath fragrances, marigold ointment, fluffy slippers, potatoes, poppy seed fritters, Tirschtlan, pine schnapps, juniper brandy, cheese, cherry cake, rye bread, bacon... Anything else you would like? Almost everyone is satisfied at the small market - all year round every Thursday afternoon - in Campo Tures.
“Tauferer Straßenküche” - road cuisine
A great summer event on the roads of Campo di Tures with culinary delights and entertainment for young and old. Tuesday is the day on which in July and August people celebrate on the roads. For eight weeks, there is a "long evening out", including fine treats for your palate. From 7 pm to 11 pm, South Tyrolean and international specialities are offered on the streets.
Show Mine of Predoi
The Show Mine of Predoi, part of the South Tyrol Mining Museums, gives a fascinating insight into the unique world of mining. The visitors, who all wear yellow coats and helmets, enter the mountain on a pit train and enjoy an exciting tour through the history of copper mining in Predoi.
Crib Museum Maranatha
This special museum in Luttach in Ahrntal tells the story of wood carving and the nativity scene in the valley. There are folksy Tyrolean nativity scenes, some of which take up entire rooms and are worked out in every single detail. Below is a 70 m² walk-in nativity scene with life-size wooden figures. There are also oriental and modern cribs.
